What a weekend!!

So late friday night I came up with the plan. It was pure genious. We had wanted to "get away" for a weekend for a while now, but being rather involved in church makes that somewhat diffictult. But, this weekend, I also had monday off. So, I booked us a room at the Heartland Resort for Sunday to Monday. After church we went out for lunch, and to Keith & Stacey's place for a little while...they were watching Tristan & Isolde together with Beth and Irena. We left around 3:00, which was check-in time at the hotel. I had never been there before, but I had heard the mineral pool, etc. was pretty sweet. Indeed it was! We soaked it up in the whirlpool, floated around the mineral pool (which was really warm!), and tried out the steam room. The steam room was pretty crazy, you could hardly breathe in there! The room was decent...not nearly as nice as the honeymoon suite we had at the Days Inn last year, but it was clean, warm, and right beside the pool.

At 7:00 we took off for a while my staff Christmas party. It was at Harry & Erika's place (my bosses). They've got a super cozy basement, and had just got a brand new pool table (a nice pool table!). The food was great, and there were a lot of laughs. The party was just really getting started when we left around 10:00. The pool back at the hotel closed at 11:00, so we wanted to get a little more tubbin' time in. The sweetest part about the whole weekend is that we had the whole place literally to ourselves.

This morning was a bit of a disappoinment though. We went to Getaways for breakfast. Something seemed wrong as we went in...it was frightfully cold. Not cool...cold like my legs were cold and my nose started to run, etc. We saw a couple of the staff trying to turn up the heat, but they couldn't open or operate the thermostat or something. The service was good though, and we had our food within minutes. Great, we can eat to warm up! Then we noticed there was a reason we had our food in two minutes...the hashbrowns were still raw and cold in the middle. Not cool. Well, I guess really they were. Whatever. They brought us fresh ones, all is good.

So we head back to our room, excited to spend the rest of the morning in the hot tub, etc. Quickly threw on our swimwear, jumped into the mineral pool and then headed for the hot tub. Wouldn't ya know it, the maintenance guy was draining the hot tub...said he was changing the water. Dang! Oh well, we thought, we'll steam it up in the steam room. Sorry, come again. The thing was down for maintenace too. Arrgghh!! I mean the mineral pool was great, but it gets boring and cool after a while. We kept getting out, standing wet till we started shivering, and then jumping back in to the mineral pool. It was always warm for a minute or so, but it got old quick.

Anywhoos, other than this morning, it was super. Totally relaxing...no long drive required...no people around...not exactly cheap, but not bad either. I'd give it a 8 out of 10. Would definetely try it again in the future.

I laughed outloud when you were talking about the steam room. My friend and I went to the spa for an afternoon and we were quite excited to try out the steam room. Well, we opened the door and both stood there gasping for air! We laughed soooo hard. Also, the hottub was so hot we almost boiled alive! Glad you had a good weekend, even tho it's not far from home, those are often the best!

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I've heard about you through Heather. I am sorry to hear about your loss. I do pray that you will be able to be pregnant by the time March 28th rolls around. We tried for 8 months to get pregnant. God knew the timing was not right when we wanted it to be.
I'm glad you got away. During the difficulty of trying trev and I went away a few times to various B & B's.
