Dang, I just can't seem to do anything right! I'm at two strikes, and wondering if it's even worth taking another swing!
Bought Liane a Christmas gift this morning...thought for sure I got it right this time. (I bought her a jacket she liked a few weeks ago, only to have her tell me shortly after that she didn't want it as a gift.) She had been drooling over this jacket at Reitmans for a week or two, and after she showed it to me, I whispered to the sales clerk to put it on hold for me. In the meantime, they didn't have her size for a while, so I thought "great, now she'll be really surprised". I knew if they had her size, she would figure out that I was getting her one, because she wanted to buy it now, and I would have had to use some excuse like "uhh, it doesn't look right", or something like that...she knows me too well. Anywhoos, she keeps checking at the store, and they happened to get some yesterday. I have the day off today, so first thing in the morning, I went to pick up the one I had on hold, went to mom & dad's place to get a box, etc., then came home. Then Liane told me she wanted me to come with her to Reitmans to show me the jacket again. I thought, "ok, no problem", 'cause I checked the rack in the store, and there was nothing even close to her size left. Little did I realize that she had put one on hold yesterday. So we come into the store, and the one clerk recognizes me right away. But another clerk asks Liane if she needs help, and of course Liane says "I have a jacket on hold for Liane Thiessen". Then, the part that screwed the whole thing up: the clerk who knew what was going on whispered to the other clerk as she was looking in the hold area. The new clerk came up with "Liane Thiessen? There's nothing on hold here for Liane Thiessen", and right away Liane figures it out and looks at me, and the secret's blown. What was the clerk thinking!? If something is on hold, they don't just give it to someone else! If she had just let her try it on, it would have been no big deal...I had convinced her on the way to the store that we really didn't have the money for it right now...I had spent waay more on her gift than we agreed to, etc.
So now she has a new jacket, and I'm back to square one.
Thanks, Reitmans :)

That's too funny! I just had my brother accidently tell me what he got me for Christmas. He was telling me about the dvds he got for my parents and then he accidently mentioned the dvd that he got me. So I know what I'm getting for Christmas too!
there should be a new rule... no buying anything for yourself between November 1 and December 31!
